Padres Two Month Review
by: Dominic Stearn
It is the last day of May, and the Padres are .500. The Hot Talent Lava of the Padres has shown up, and shown out in the first two months of the season. Here’s a brief summary of how their season is going so far.
Manny Machado: While Machado has brought a lot of excitement to this team, his play on the field has been average at best. He is currently hitting .264, with nine bombs, but has an exceptionally high OBP of .351. Not to mention, he has made several highlight-reel plays.
Eric Hosmer: Hosmer has had a strong bounceback season. After a slow start, Hosmer has raised his average to .297 to go along with nine home runs.
Chris Paddack: A year and a half ago,Chris Paddack underwent Tommy John Surgery, and the majority of Padres fans forgot about him. Now, he is the ace of our staff. In 56.1 innings pitched, he has struck out 62 batters and posted a .82 WHIP and 2.40 ERA.
Kirby Yates: Kirby Yates leads the MLB saves, and is perfect in save opportunities. Kirby will undoubtedly be an all-star this Summer.
Other Standouts: Franmil Reyes has 15 home runs, and Hunter Renfroe has 14 bombs. Matt Strahm has posted a 3.21 ERA in his first season as a starting pitcher. Craig Stammen leads all MLB relievers in appearances. Trey Wingenter has 25 strikeouts in 17 innings.
